EIT Water Black Sea

 


 
Marine Cluster Bulgaria is the host organisation for the Black Sea Region of EIT Water – the new European Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) dedicated to water, marine sectors and ecosystems.
 
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) officially announced the establishment of EIT Water, the newest European Knowledge and Innovation Community focused on addressing key challenges in water resource management, the blue economy and aquatic ecosystems.
 
EIT Water brings together innovators, researchers, universities and businesses from all over Europe to develop sustainable solutions to water scarcity, pollution and the advancement of the circular blue economy.  The initiative unites 50 strategic partners from 24 countries and more than 150 additional partners. 

Mission and objectives of EIT Water:

EIT Water works to establish an integrated approach between freshwater and marine systems, stimulate innovative technologies and implement sustainable water management practices across the European Union. The initiative focuses on:
• water scarcity, droughts and floods;
• pollution of marine and freshwater ecosystems;
• development of a circular and sustainable blue economy.

Marine Cluster Bulgaria is one of the eight EIT Water regional hubs across Europe. 

Main priorities of EIT Water Black Sea:

- Decarbonisation of shipping
- Eco-innovation in transport
- Marine ecosystem health
- Skills development to strengthen resilience and competitiveness

Marine Cluster Bulgaria:
 
 • supports and coordinate regional innovation activities;
• builds capacities and promote skills development;
• connects scientific, business and societal partners;
• encourages new projects and the creation of start-ups in the marine and water sectors.
