ScienceDIVER - Marine Cluster Bulgaria started work on a new projectScienceDIVER project started in November 2019, implemented by seven partners from five EU countries: Greece (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki - coordinator, Atlantis Consulting SA), Italy (University of Calabria), Germany (University of Stuttgart, envirocom), Bulgaria ( Marine Cluster Bulgaria) and Malta (Divers Alert Network Europe Foundation). The project's duration is 36 months and it is co-funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
ScienceDIVER aims to support the development of blue and smart cross-sectoral skills to meet the growing needs of the blue economy job market. It will build long-lasting collaboration and structures between academia and industry to offer standardized training and clear career paths for diving scientists. The partners will work to develop and establish uniform, internationally recognized standards and training courses for scientific diving in all European countries.
The successful implementation of the ScienceDIVER project will be at the heart of the initiative to develop a European directive (common framework, status, educational standards, recognition and rights of scientific divers in all European countries). The combined efforts of a large stakeholder group involved will bridge skills gaps and make scientific diving careers more attractive and valuable for young people in Europe so that they can meet the upcoming innovative challenges in the science of sustainable blue growth
On December 10, 2019, Aristotle University in Thessaloniki hosted the first meeting of the partners, which discussed in detail the upcoming tasks.
